Matt Lond Saxophone & Ewi
GCLCM, PGCE
I studied the saxophone at Leeds College of Music where I focused on Jazz and Performance under the guidance of Richard Ingham and Al Wood. I then completed a PGCE course at Leeds University. During this time I performed at the Hi-Fi Club, Liquid, Joseph's Well and the Wardrobe with funk/ function bands formed from fellow students and tutors. I also performed at numerous venues and nightclubs around the country including: Marrs Club(Worcester), Rock Garden (Covent Garden), Jazz Cafe (Camden), Toucan Club (Cardiff), Moles (Bath), Maze (Nottingham) and the Cavern Club (Liverpool), with the now disbanded funk band Huggy.
Since 2002 I have worked as a Peripatetic Woodwind Teacher for Lincolnshire Music Support Service. During this time I have formed the South Lincolnshire Youth Jazz Orchestra (SLYJO). As part of this employment I have established a strong link with the many schools I teach in especially at the Kings School Grantham where I am the woodwind and jazz studies teacher. Here I run numerous groups ranging from a saxophone quartet through to a 7 piece jazz combo, soul band and two big bands.
Recently I have also got into the EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) which I find gives me a whole new approach to the world of performing.
